Yes. OpenAI's API bills separately from any ChatGPT subscription and needs its own payment method and prepaid balance. A key on an account with no balance is valid but every request fails.

Q: Which key permissions does Nodest need?

A key with full access. OpenAI can restrict a key to read-only, which cannot send prompts, so pick full access and scope the key to whichever project should carry the cost.
